Recently, the State Railway Administration of China released the “2021 Railway Statistical Bulletin” (referred to as the “Statistical Bulletin”).
The Statistical Bulletin shows:
First, the volume of railway passenger and freight continued to grow. In 2021, the national railway passenger volume will be 2.612 billion, an increase of 18.5% over the previous year. The national railway freight transportation volume reached 4.774 billion tons, an increase of 4.9% over the previous year.
Second, the safety of railway transportation continued to be stable. In 2021, there will be no particularly major or major accidents in railway traffic across the country.
The third is the orderly progress of railway construction. In 2021, the national railway fixed asset investment will complete 748.9 billion yuan, and 4,208 kilometers of new lines will be put into operation, including 2,168 kilometers of high-speed railways. The national railway operating mileage has reached 150,000 kilometers, of which high-speed railways have reached 40,000 kilometers.
Fourth, the railway standard system was further improved. In 2021, 9 national railway standards and 1 national railway metrology regulations will be released. Published 39 railway industry standards and 2 railway industry measurement regulations. Published 5 international standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) formulated under the auspices of my country.
Fifth, the railway scientific and technological innovation has achieved fruitful results. The railway industry has won 10 National Science and Technology Awards in 2020, including 1 first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 7 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and 2 second prizes of the National Technology Invention Award. A total of 35 patents in the railway industry won the 22nd China Patent Award. In 2021, the railway major scientific and technological innovation achievements database will enter 248 items.
Sixth, the green development of railways is steadily advancing. In 2021, the comprehensive energy consumption of national railways per unit of transportation workload will be reduced by 0.16 tons of standard coal/million converted ton-kilometers compared with the previous year, the chemical oxygen demand emissions will be reduced by 12 tons compared with the previous year, and the sulfur dioxide emissions will be reduced by 10,000 tons compared with the previous year.
