In the past five years, the mileage of Beijing rail transit has increased from 574 kilometers at the end of 2016 to 783.1 kilometers, with an average annual increase of 41.8 kilometers. By the end of 2021, Beijing has formed the world’s second largest mega-city rail transit network in total mileage; in 2019, the annual passenger volume reached 3.96 billion, ranking first in the world.
With the efficient development of urban rail transit, Beijing has formed various types of subway lines, supplemented by subway express lines, medium and low traffic, airport special lines, trams, maglev trains, etc. Clear and multi-level network system suitable for the needs of different groups of people. The level of rail transit network has been further enriched, the network layout has been increasingly improved, and the service radius has been further expanded. At present, the coverage of urban rail transit has increased to 13 districts, rail transit accounts for 57% of public transportation, and the city’s green travel ratio reaches 74%. The dominant position of rail transit in urban public transportation was further strengthened.
